Remember I asked you guys about this?
Ok, so setting TAPESIZE=0 seems to work fine. But it fails to restore, is it because the tape was said to be in the drive and it's actually not? please see down below.

What you could do is to set TAPESIZE to zero, take an ontape archive. If
it fails then the dd command that Paul posted will tell you how much data
was written. If not and ontape successfully asks for another tape, then
you are good to use zero all the time. If ontape is successful but doesn't
ask for another tape, then you know that you are good at least until you
outgrow the length of the tape and ontape either fails or asks for another
tape.
