Hi Sam,

Is your site using ESRI software? What images/file formats are you
We run a GIS system using ESRI products. We are in the process of
getting the new ESRI product Image Server up and running. This Image
server will in future host our imagery(Raster) while the shape data
remains in the database.
We do not use zoning but instead setup different instances on the
database server for whatever reason. 75% of RAM goes to shared memory
but if you are only running an IDS server, about 90% or more of the RAM
can be dedicated to IDS.
We use IBM DS4*00 models to store our imagery data.
NOAGE on our servers is set to 1. If set to 0, we do notice delays in

Hi all,

Answer came to me directly.
Samuel, I have no experience with optical drives, so I cannot tell you
how migration would run best, but you seem to have a plan already.
I am not sure what you mean by setting up "project". We normally setup
IDS not by setting outside (OS) restrictions but setting onconfig
On a 8 GB System why don't you give IDS the memory you have (buffering
is never a wrong idea, maybe leave 1 GB for OS, rest for shared memory
and buffers) ? The decision to use one global zone should be ok for a
dedicated instance and you have all the options to optimise the setup
(and things like noage or cpu binding will work without any problem).

Re: RE: Informix 10.0 FC4 & Solaris 10

Thanks for the input. We have 4 CPU's @ 1800 and 8 GB RAM. This box is
dedicated to a single instance. The apps are on another server.

This box will be a dedicated image server. To work around the max number
of chunks with 7.31, the images are stored on hp optical drives.
There are roughly 15 TB of data out there.

The 7.31 must be on-line 24X7, so we are using Art's dbcopy routine and
several stored procedures, the critical images/data are transfered to
IDS 10 on this Solaris 10 box every night.

The sysadmin has set up project of 4 GB for informix. He says we do not
need zones but our performance suffers the longer dbcopy/procedures

We need to bind to at least three of the CPU's and make sure noage
doesn't bite us.
