Wait, but if you restored all of these instances on the same box under
different VMs, weren't they sharing the same disk chunks? Didn't each
restore just overwrite the existing data on disk (admittedly with the
same data)? Maybe that's why the startup detection when you tried to
restart the primary thought that it was an SDS secondary and it couldn't
find a primary running? Did you rename the chunks for each instance
during the restores? If not, I think you have to restore the original
primary's archive again and start the whole process over again.
