Thanks for your response but java is still not working and I'm still looking for help.

/home/informix is a link to /IDS/IDS115FC3; it's much easier for me to remember when I'm navigating.

I'm not sure if it matters but I probably should have mentioned that I'm trying this on a secondary SDS server.

In my IDS 10 install there is a /usr/lib/informix/jrel.4 link to the krakatoa jre. That link is missing from my 11.5 install. I found install instructions in the machine notes and followed them exactly and now I have a brand new error when I execute the install jar command. This time I had to bounce the engine:

This is what I got from the machine notes:
3. JRE Shared Libraries

In order to ensure the JRE shared libraries are loaded properly, the

following steps are necessary:

a. Add the following lines at the end of /etc/ld.so.conf

<$INFORMIXDIR>/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin

<$INFORMIXDIR>/extend/krakatoa/jre/bin/classic

<$INFORMIXDIR>/extend/krakatoa/jre/lib

This assumes the bundled JRE in $INFORMIXDIR/extend/krakatoa/jre

is used. Substitute <$INFORMIXDIR> by the value of your

INFORMIXDIR environment variable.

c. Run ldconfig as root

# ldconfig
