Hi,

the problem may be that the tape (device) you are
using for the restore does not act as a rewind device.

ontape first reads some pages to determine what is
to be restored. Then it closes the tape device and
opens it again, expecting that it will start again from
the beginning. If the device acts as a no-rewind
device, then upon the second opening of the
device it will not start from the beginning.
This is what Art also explained already, and it
really works like that!
