HDR

Hello,

I'm getting ready to set up Informix HDR between our primary server and
our secondary server at our D/R site. We are running Informix 10.00.HC5
on HPUX. Both servers are HP 9000 systems (rp7410). I've been getting
some ideas from another University who has implemented HDR and I'm
trying to look at the simplest option. I like simple.

Primary server - hostname is HP9000.spartans.ut and our internal IP
address is 10.2.24.xxx

Secondary server - hostname is drHP9000.spartans.ut and our internal IP
address is 10.2.25.xxx

We have a 20 MB pipe between the 2 locations. From what I've heard this
should be sufficient for replication. I've used HP's version of rsync
to copy source directories and system files and this is very quick. In
the past, I've used the Ignite HPUX make_tape_recovery which creates a
bootable tape with all the logical volume information including the
Informix information, i.e. dbspace, chunks, etc. Then I run an ontape
-r and restore the full Informix Archive from production. This summer,
my bosses would really like to see HDR replication between both systems.
We would have our apache web server, cron stopped on our D/R HP 9000
unless we had to failover. If a hurricane is approaching, since we are
located in a flood zone, we may want to switch over to our D/R site.

Right now the servers can talk to each other since they are both on our
Spartans Domain. But my network guy tells he won't have the 10.2.24.xxx
network at our D/R site, even in a disaster so I will never change the
IP address on the D/R HP 9000.

My sqhosts file on both servers are identical except for the hostname
(HP 9000 versus drHP9000)

The onconf.cars file is also identical since the hostnames on the boxes
are different.

This is my summer project and I want to get it started as soon as
possible. From most of the reading I've done it doesn't seem to
difficult.

1. Can I leave both sqlhosts file and onconf.cars file the same?

2. What other files do I need to change before I turn HDR on?

As I stated before, I'm talking with another University who used a very
good approach where they did it with 3 hostnames and 3 IP addresses.
They pass the identity of the database server to the secondary server
during a failover. I like their approach but I'm not sure how much time
this will take.
