Hello Jack,

I recently attainded one of the IDS Bootcamps held in my city(first of its kind) and learned that IBM Information Management has a clear Road Map Ahead for ATLEAST next 5 years and I'm sure there is no looking back for Informix !!

Mr Kagel gave you all the facts about the strong presence of Informix and it is very true that Informix customers always stay with Informix, they are big and good in numbers.

Also recent efforts to market Informix is visble (Road shows, Bootcamps, New certifications, University sessions, Better Documentation, Conferences, Blogs, community events....)

Yes, even i have seen a couple of migrations to another database but then they were due to SAP application requirements and no one was happy.

Just once question i would like an answer for:
How many NEW customers are being added to the Informix portfolio on quartely/yearly basis (few eyebrows raised on me by now)? may be confidential matter to disclose the number but I am hoping for a positive reply here...:)

Where have you been for the last 9 years Jack? The Informix community has
convinced IBM that Informix is a real product and it isn't going anywhere.

Informix is part of IBM Information Management which was recently placed
under the helm of one of its supporters within IBM.

features and significant performance improvements.

You can download the Developers Edition with no timebomb from the IIUG web
site members' only download page. This can be used for a single CPU VP and
up to 2GB of memory (if memory serves) with no time limit.

It's the best engine ever and it looks like it will be around for a good
long time. Keep in mind that most of the worlds' biggest online gaming
companies, retailers and communications companies use Informix. Users
include:

- 20 of the 25 largest retail organizations

- 9 out of 10 of the worlds largest Supermarket companies

- the US national 911 system (used by all but the largest municipalities)

- worldwide VISA credit card processing

- most of the routers that manage the internet and most corporate

networks run Informix inside

- the most advanced telecom and tele/video conferencing systems run

Informix inside

- much of the US long distance telephone traffic is routed by an Informix

database

- the court systems of several states run on Informix
