In Response To: Application Porting Question (John Lynch (IS))

Hi john

We've migrated from AIX 4.3 + IDS 7.31 to Linux + IDS 9.4 a rather large
DB (>40 GB)

The process basically was recompile all the 4gl and form stuff, and
dbexport + import. Believe it or not, the process is rather simple

Be careful if you have several dbspaces for data. Try to keep them
exactly as in source. If you want to re-arrange dbspaces, be careful on
their size,
change it in the dbexport file (with the clause "in <dbspace>" within a
"create table")

You'd rather make a previous test consisting of a plain dbexport and try
to import (and debug and optimize and adjust and take note!) before
going on to the real process. Just a warning: the export took us about 9
hours - downtime - the import took aprox. the same amount of time. Your
milleage may vary :-)

Hope it helps. All the best.

Asunto: Application Porting Question [3837]

Hi ,

We are about to port our 4gl based application from Hp_UX v11 to
Solaris 8 (maybe 10). We will also be upgrading our IDS from 7.31.FD6 to

IDS 9.40.xxx (for Solaris) . Currently our 4Gl tools are
7.30.FC4.
We will be moving to 7.32.xxx

Has anybody out there gone through the same (similar) process and if
so
were there any unforeseen issues. ?

Also what would be peoples advice in approaching this. Theoretically
a
re-compile of the code and dbexport / dbimport of the data ? Am I being
too
simplistic or naive here ?

Thks for any help.
John.
