Re: doubts... OAT Repository? [591] [593]

Hi Fernando,

About the filter on the Alerts page, there is info alerts what I want
keep seeing , something like :

"Found 74 table(s) in database [sysadmin] which need statistics
This is could be useful for me... and I consider this a real alert ,
what we need to concern about what need statistics updated...
Logical log backup, not so much, if they just keep working , I don't
need all info about all logical log backups. Just a alert if they stop

About the way to send email with OAT, is exactly trying keep a central
of "alerts" . I not sure what you means with the Alerts page keep
relying on ALARMPROGRAM. I already looking for information like that ,
and not found.
My suspicion is exactly the function "post_alarm_messages" is
synchronized with the calls of the alarmprogram internally on the core
of the database, but I don't found any documentation what says that
Honestly I not test , far from what I understand this kind of
synchronization isn't 100% , because if we write a task to include some
alert manually on ph_alerts , this alerts will not start a call at the
'alarmprogram' shell, should be ???
Or we need call manually the pg_dbs_alert (from a manually created OAT
Task) ?? What there is no documentation how to do... (at least I not found)
I don't see a synchronous between the Alerts of the OAT and
alarmprogram. I want to choose only one to work...
This is the reason what I want a e-mail configuration by OAT , stop the
needs to change the alarmprogram for each instance configured....

The long transaction , is a alert what I want to see into the OAT..
this weekend occur a long transaction on the production database where I
work and not appear on the OAT Alerts...
hum... now I'm thinking... this don't appear be synchronized internally
, was I said before....

How can I rely on the OAT Alerts if they don't show all alerts, just
like alarmprogram.... if I need to manually customize it to work how I
need (for each instance configured).. I will do this job only once , at
the alarmprogram, what is much simple... and keep my eye on the
online.log... what I can trust...
And at all, as you suggest, I will finally write my own task to include
all alarm from alarmprogram into the ph_task... or I just cannot trust
on the OAT Alerts.

I not sure if my explanation is clear enough... if not , please , tell
me ... I will try again...
Maybe I misunderstand how OAT works, and they already do this jobs what
I want and just not figure how to make it work...
